COURSE OPEN: Wednesday 4th August 2021 to Wednesday 27th October 2021. Virtual live and on-demand sessions (before the next session). Participate the course on your browser or through Zoom mobile app.

LIVE Q&A SESSION: On every live session (5 to 10 minutes before the session end). Will be recorded and uploaded to Facebook private group (same as the recorded live session).

PRESENTATION SLIDES: Will be shared a day prior to the live session.

COURSE MODULES

-WEEK 1-

Introduction to Language and Intelligence

  • Good language proficiency helps us to understand new information and learn new things faster.

  • Learn how language shapes our thinking process and affects our intelligence in this module.

  • Set up realistic and achievable goals for your child so that they can have a fun and fruitful language learning experience.

-WEEK 2-

Typical Language Development

  • Find out what is the typical language development in children and what might go wrong.

  • Is speech and language delay being only a delay?

  • Can it lead to more disastrous outcome in the future?

-WEEK 3-

Setting Up The Environment and Behavioural Management

  • Do you know that children who threw tantrum is also trying to communicate?

  • Learn how to make learning easier for you and your young one by some small changes you can make at home.

-WEEK 4-

Pre-Verbal Skills & Interaction

  • An effective communication starts from having an intent to communicate.

  • We learn how to convey our thoughts and needs via the common code that we had observed before.

  • How effective is our child’s communication?

  • Are they able to tell/ understand others with an appropriate communication method?

-WEEK 5-

Play Development

  • A child shows us what he knows about the world with the way he plays.

  • He builds, destroys, throws, jumps, runs and falls while learning.

  • Let’s find out how can we help our child to learn more with fun.

-WEEK 6-

Social Skills

  • One of the main goals we learn to communicate is to create a new relationship with people and stay connected.

  • We will look into the ways to make connections within ourselves and with others.

Disclaimer:

This course is designed to encourage language learning in children by providing positive learning experience to adult learners and is not equivalent to Speech Therapy session which is a clinical individual therapy.

  • There are more than 200,000 English words in the Oxford dictionary.

  • We will learn which of those words should be introduced to our child first.

Core Vocabulary (Tier 1 Vocabulary)

Promoting Receptive Language

  • Receptive language is the ability to understand messages that are being conveyed accurately.

  • How would we know if our child has age-appropriate receptive language?

  • It is not as simple as being able to following instruction.

-WEEK 9-

Reading to The Child

  • Books introduce us to a world that we might not have chance to access to in our lifetime.

  • The more we read, the more we know.

  • We will find out the appropriate books and reading styles which is suits our child who is as young as 1 day old.

-WEEK 10-

Eliciting Expressive Language

  • Expressive Language is the ability to let others know their needs and thoughts accurately and effectively.

  • Things might go wrong when a child is unable to use the correct word, pronounce it properly or even inability to use the correct language to communicate with the communicator.

  • We will go into the ways of helping the child to improve their skills.

-WEEK 12-

Speech Sound Development

  • Inaccurate pronunciation is always the biggest concern for parent and teachers.

  • What can we do when speaking slow and exaggerating the word do not work?

-WEEK 13-

Story Telling: Narration Development

  • A good story teller understands more things from their experience and is potentially able to build more connections with people.

  • Let’s help our child to be a storytelling master.

-WEEK 11-

Using Songs

  • Not only songs can help us to express ourselves better, they helped us to memorise things and enrich our vocabulary capacity.

  • In this module, we will explore the ways to incorporate songs into our daily lives and use song to help in our learning process.

About Han Hui

Being one of the first Listening and Spoken Language Specialists in Malaysia, Han Hui is on a mission to help parents to develop and shape their child’s language learning. Trained as a Speech Language Pathologist, she worked with countless families hand in hand from different social and cultural backgrounds to overcome the communication difficulties of their loved ones.

Han Hui is also a Certified Presenter for MED-EL Parent Curriculum and has been invited to train parents and professionals internationally, including Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong and China.

Course registration

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1. After registering for the course, participants must sign a Course Access Agreement to be given access to the course. The full terms of accessing this course are included in the Agreement. If a participant does not sign the Course Access Agreement by the due date they will not be able to access the course.

2. Participants MUST open their camera all the time during the live sessions in order to maximise the learning experience.

3. Cancellation policy:​

  • No refunds are available for cancellations made after the participant has made the payment.

  • No refunds or extensions are available for participants who don't start or don't complete the course in the allotted time provided. It is the participant's responsibility to complete the course in the time provided.

  • We are not responsible for the loss of any registration fees or bank fees due to differing exchange rates when a refund is processed.
